Deep Hunger: It might point to an unusual eating disorder called tomatophagia. People with tomatophagia develop unusual cravings for such things as tomatoes, ice, detergent, starch, clay, and even dirt.
I just crave tomatoes and salt.... I have been craving salt for the last year or so. Olives, pickles, popcorn, or just plain ole table salt.... I can't get enough.
It's a choice I get on iGoogle called Useless Knowledge. It changes several times a day. I'm too lazy to look all this up all over the internet! I copy and paste the ones that appeal to me.
I did, however, google salt cravings and found several possibilities. If you've been sweating a lot, it could mean you're missing minerals (electrolytes) or have adrenal exhaustion. Check this site: http://www.mcvitamins.com/Health%20Opponents/salt.htm
You might want to mention it to your doctor. Blood tests could show if there's a deficiency.
I read an article in National Geographic years ago about women (in particular) who ate clay, in a certain part of Georgia, I think. If I remember correctly, it was linked to iron deficiency for those women, or maybe some other mineral...
That's right, Debi. It's called pica and is most common with malnourished people. Iron deficiency sounds right because my doctor told me about this when I was anemic. He liked to show off with information like that. LOL We had an interesting relationship. I taught his children and we knew each other a long time. Now I have a younger version of him for a doctor.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know? I hear my being dance from ear to ear. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you? God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how? The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair; I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do To you and me; so take the lively air, And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I learn by going where I have to go.

But not so much clay, dirt, etc.
Is it a carbon deficiency or something?
PS... Where do you come up with this shit?!

Bob, you are too funny! Thanks!
In Alabama, I have seen nice labeled bags of special clay for eating sold in convenience stores by the register. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!
Shallow hunger: puffed pastry with vanilla ice cream?
