1970 – four students at Kent University were killed and eleven wounded by National Guard troops at a campus demonstration protesting the escalation of the Vietnam War. Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young electrified the nation with "Ohio" which the incident inspired Neil Young to compose. Slightly less electrifying is the fact that "Hang On Sloopy" is the official rock song of the state of Ohio.

I was going to try and think of something cute to come to the defense of the Buckeye state, but sadly I can not.
I do remember that year all too well, along with Crosby, Stills and Nash! Hmmmm guess that song says something about Ohio -- not entirely sure just what! Fun post!
what kind of song is "hang on sloopy"? Is it me, or does America seem to sweep their dirt under the rug better than anyone?
Hang on Sloopy? How sad.
Much cooler is Ohio's state reptile, the Black Racer, which is a proper constrictor and everything.
My City Was Gone by the Pretenders is another really good song about Ohio, too...
I didn't know states had official rock songs. You'd think since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland, they might have chosen a different one. There must be a story to go with this.
The day and month is also the anniversary of the death of jackie Kennedy.
