In 1418, women’s headgear was so tall that, on the orders of the queen, the doorways of the royal castle of Vincennes, France, were raised to allow the ladies of the court to pass through without ducking.
In the Krewe, our dimensions are 16x16... feet! Any taller and you'll take out the curtains- any wider and you take out the royalty! I've been tempted to go wider a few times!!!
maybe we should lower door heights in this day and age to make some people a little more humble. Reading "Genghis, Lords of the Bow", the doors to the gers required everyone to get on all fours to enter...even the great Genghis.Makes me think of Eskimos, American Indians, etc.versus grand staircases of great homes and my kitchen door ( watch that first step please).
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know? I hear my being dance from ear to ear. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you? God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how? The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair; I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do To you and me; so take the lively air, And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I learn by going where I have to go.
