There are two more victims of the Coke and Pepsi war. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis had been feuding for years. During the making of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Davis had a Coca-Cola machine installed on the set due to Crawford’s affiliation with Pepsi—she was the widow of Pepsi’s CEO. Crawford exacted her revenge by putting weights in her pockets when Davis had to drag her across the floor during certain scenes.
I love that story. I've read books about both, and they both told the same tale. What I didn't know was that both women signed on to work together again on "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" but Joan became 'ill' and had to leave. Olivia DeHavilland took over her role.
Bette was such a staunch New Englander even by our homee standards that the southern dialect always floored us back home here.My aunt was her housekeeper in Cape Elizabeth and I used to sit in the kitchen visiting my aunt while listening to Davis in the other room. She and Gary really got into it sometimes. But she'd walk into the kitchen and turn it all off in a second and order cookies and milk for me...all smiles and happiness. Not that we ever felt that she had a penchsnt for kids at all. as an adult I didn't know her at all. The whole town felt she was just another regular and never treated her with any deference- which was exactly to her liking.she wore housedresses and ankle socks just like everybody else.
joy i am so glad it's finally summer vacation and i have time to read and comment on all the blogs i have been making a mental list to get to over the last 9 weeks.

Wow, Charlie! (Berry to y'all) What a great story! I love it when you tell about the people you've been around and known. It makes me so glad I posted this, and we all got to learn more. Thanks!!
Thank you, Mistress Maddie! It's for you!

Welcome, Howard and Miss Alaineus. I appreciate the comments! Hope you come back and visit again.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know? I hear my being dance from ear to ear. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you? God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how? The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair; I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do To you and me; so take the lively air, And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I learn by going where I have to go.

I'd never heard that story - but that movie is one of the gay camp classics of all time!
