DWTS 8 - Week 5

The dances this week are the Viennese Waltz and the Paso Doble. I'm not as interested in many of the dancetestants this season with the exception of Chuck and Julianne and Gilles and Cheryl. Tom Bergeron always makes the show better. Some of you need to watch this just to see Gilles!!!

Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 7/8/8 = 23 (Last week 22)

Critique: Chuck wanted to move out of the middle of the pack and improve this week. I think Chuck improved this week. There were a few footwork foibles, but he was graceful and did well. Len said he came out of hibernation and needs to work on his footwork. Bruno thought he did well. Carrie Ann not so much. Julianne won the Rising Star Award at the ACM Awards last night. For some reason no one mentioned Julianne's award. Chuck said it was a tough week for them because they were in Vegas all week. Great opening there.

Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska

Dance: Paso Doble

Score: 6/7/7 = 20 (last week 19)

Critique: Lawrence had a hard time during rehearsal with the dance but said he was going to approach it with the same intensity as when he played football. Well, he was intense but sort of wooden. He doesn't have a natural grace and won't be on a lot longer. The judges said it was his best performance so far. So far Carrie Ann has given the lowest scores tonight.

Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 9/8/9/= 26 (last week 25)

Critique: Shawn was frustrated learning the dance, but she got it! It was graceful and pretty. Her dress was the most flattering of any she's worn so far. Carrie Ann thought it was basic and simple and that it worked for them. Len said it was romantic, but she needs to concentrate on her footwork because the heel is supposed to come down first. Bruno gushed and said she had great musicality and flow.

Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani

Dance:
Paso Doble

Score: 8/8/9 = 25 (last week 29)

Critique: Melissa had a hard time with the steps and the character. I didn't think this was her best dance. It lacked some of the passion I've seen in these The judges said it was a difficult routine and lacked some of the aggression of the Paso Doble. They praised her for rising to the challenge of difficult choreography. She was pleased with her score and thought she wouldn't do that well.

David Alan Grier & Kym Johnson

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 7/8/7 = 22 (last week 22)

Critique: Well, it was OK. He was graceful and had some good moves. Carrie Ann said there was a disconnect but Len thought it was good.

Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke

Dance: Paso Doble

Score: 10/9/10 = 29 (last week 30)

Critique: Oh, I'm looking forward to watching Gilles and Cheryl dance the Paso Doble. He's been doing martial arts for a long time and thought that would help with this. OMG!! He started the dance with his shirt off!!!! Then he had on a bolero jacket that Cheryl put on him. This was HOT HOT HOT!!! Carrie Ann and Bruno gave him a standing ovation and so did the audience! He did some flamenco moves, too. It was passionate, fiery, and intense! I want Gilles to win this whole thing so much. He's right up there with Maks for me to lust after. See why?

Steve-O & Lacey Schwimmer

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 6/6/6 = 18 (last week 15)

Critique: They danced to a French song (sung in French) which just makes me keep thinking of Gilles more! He did pretty well and was better than he has been. Len said it was his best dance. Bruno said his timing was on tonight. Carrie Ann thought it was sweet. Sweet?

Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower

Dance: Paso Doble

Score: 7/7/7 = 21 (last week 25)

Critique: Ty said that's the world he comes from, having a counter move for every move the bull makes. He was stiff and wooden with it but did have intensity. There was no passion and fire with his dance, but he definitely tried. Bruno said it was robotic and stiff. Carrie Ann agreed. Len said some dances are his cup of tea and some are not.

Lil' Kim & Derek Hough

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 9/8/9 = 26 (last week 27)

Critique: Their dance was graceful and elegant and romantic. I liked it. Bruno said he'd never seen anyone make the Viennese Waltz look sassy and cheeky. The judges said Kim and Derek were really good together. I don't know anything about her music but like her on this.

Who will go tomorrow night?

Oh my! What a picture of a shirtless Gilles! The show is starting here in about ten minutes. I definitely have something to look forward to. Thanks, Joy. :-D

Joy, you've done your research. LOVE that picture of Gilles! He was awesome! I just posted my summary, too.

I think we're going to see Steve-O and David in the dance off. Ty could be there too but I hope not. I want him to have another week or two to prove himself.

Yes, you do, Ell! Wow!

I think so, too, Jim, and hope Ty gets to stay longer.
