Trivia

Golf was banned in England and Scotland in 1457 by King James II because he claimed it distracted people from the archery practice necessary for national defense.

Oh, really?

...and just mention cutting back any sport in education to make ends meet! Just try! talk about grass roots rebellion. Throw out those silly drama and music programs first. I mean chorus alone costs a fortune.

Right! They never want to get rid of sports, but that threat usually gets them to agree to higher taxes or whatever.

All able bodied males had to practise archery every Sunday by law.
