Please let me know some places you like to eat in New Orleans that are reasonable and enjoyable. I know about famous restaurants there, but money is an object with our group. It's a city well-known for excellent food, like Charleston, so we're looking forward to the food and the sights! Suggestions anyone? We'll be going in a couple of weeks and will be there Saturday night, all day Sunday, and Monday morning, October 10-12, and are staying on Julia near Riverwalk and will be there and in the French Quarter.
I should have mentioned that I've been there before and have of course been to Cafe du Monde and will do that again. That has to be done, right? :-) We also ate at the Acme Oyster Bar and another place that I can't remember the name of. It was away from the Quarter somewhere, and someone else treated me to that dinner. I know what you mean about Hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's! I had one and it was definitely enough. It's so much fun singing along there and like a party in itself!
I also got a tour of Paul Prudhomme's kitchen and restaurant K-Paul's. I was peeping in the window, and a guy who works there came out. I told him I just wanted to see inside. It was closed since it was in the afternoon. He asked if I wanted to come in and look around, so I did!
New Orleans isn't like any other place, is it? I also want to go there again and stay longer and see more. There's a list of other cities and places I want to go and others to visit again.

I really want to go there
Go on miss Joy bring Pictures.
Only ever went there once, on a day trip, in about 1988, but if it's still there, you should definitely have coffee and beignets at the Cafe Du Monde. It's a New Orleans must-see!
All the times we were there my Dad was picking up the tab... Cafe Du Monde is great.I loved that place. Commander's Palace and Brennan's. I went to see if there was a website for Brennan's and there is but no prices! But you could always try appetizers and soup if it is too pricey. Commander's Palace has prices. Lunch is cheaper than dinner.
For Sunday morning, I'd suggest brunch at Begue's restaurant at the Royal Sonesta hotel on Bourbon St. It's not exactly cheap (it comes to about $40/per person with tip), but that includes unlimited champagne or mimosa's. The food is incredible, including omlettes made to order, an entire buffet table committed to bread, an entire buffet table committed to desert where a chef cooks bananas foster to order. And the restaurant itself is lovely, with french doors opening into a beautiful courtyard and a piano player. I would contact for reservations. And if you liked fried seafood, I recommend Deanie's on Iberville Street in the French Quarter--be warned the portions are huge. If you like chargrilled (cooked over and open flame and basted in butter and topped with parmesan) oysters, or oysters on the half shell (raw), Aceme Oyster House (i think it's also on iberville st.) is good, but it's really popular so their is often a line. For lunch, Cafe Maspero's (601 Decatur street in the quarter) is good. They have muffelettas, decent gumbo, and fried shrimp sandwiches. Close to where you're staying is a famous po-boy shop, Muther's, but be prepared for a long line. And finally, if there is a well known restaurant you're interested in, but think may be too expensive, check their website or call about specials---a lot of them have been srunning specials like $25 for 3 appetizers and a glass or wine, or a set price on a limited menu. And finally, be careful with the drinks hurricanes and hand grenades--some places use everclear in them, so they are stronger than they might taste.
Auntie Flame-
I will send you a note on Facebook, you know how much time i soend there, I will set you up!
XXOO
On Facebook, I mentioned The Clover Grill and Central Grocery. Both are in the Quarter. Design Junkie mentioned one I forgot--Acme Oyster House. All are very reasonable! We've also eaten at NOLA, one of Emeril's restaurants--excellent, but on the pricey side. I didn't mention Cafe du Monde, because if you've been to N. Orleans before, I'm guessing you've been to C du M! It's always a must-stop. I don't even drink coffee, but I always have a cafe au lait there.
LOL at Design Junkie's mention of the Hurricanes and Hand Grenades. Oh man, is that ever the truth! I think the worst I've felt in years was the day after I had 2 and a half Hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's. They're so tasty and go down so easy, but they pack a wallop!
I just love New Orleans. It's my favorite city I've even been to. If a person can't have a good time there, they just aren't trying. Enjoy! Hugs, Beth
Unfortunately I am usually too drunk or hungover to eat when I'm in NOLA - but I can confirm that brunch at the Royal Sonesta is well worth the price. You won't have to eat again for hours and hours - you'll be so full.

And YES, you must get beignets at Cafe du Monde - and a muffaleta across the street at Central Grocery. Both are extremely cheap and delish!!!
XOXOXOXOXO
Thanks so much!!! I got lots of ideas and will work those in with the sightseeing and shopping. :-)
AF-
there is a place called "Mothers" on Poydras near where youare staying that has the BEST poboys! The have one called a debris sandwich (call is at Day- bree sandwich is you want to sound local!) that is made form the "crumbles" created when the roast beef is sliced! Delish! Take the streetcar to Carrolton and eat at Camellia Grill- it's a cheap burger joint, but SOOOO good! and save room for dessert- pecan pie- they heat it up by grilling it!
Mulates us good, inexpensive, and near where you're staying. There's also a great fish place near Julia called Rio Mar. Not cheap, but not ridiculous! Also, if you want to splurge, go to Drago's- there's a location on the ground floor of the Hilton! Yummy! And, for lunch, you can't beat the food court at the Riverwalk- great food, cheap! Have fun, and let me know if you need more info!
OH! And Port of Call on Esplanade.... take a cab. Another FABULOUS borger- like nowhere else! They have a signature cocktail that's yummo, too! I think it's called a "mind eraser!"
