DWTS 9 Week 2

The dances this week are the tango, jive, and quickstep. Baz Luhrmann was guest judge in Len's place. He directed the movie Ballroom Dancing, Moulin Rouge, and others. He's also English. (correction: Australian) The dancetestants were all stressed because they had four weeks to learn the dances for last week and less than four days for this one.

Tom said they are adding four dances this season - the bolero, Charleston, country two-step, and Lambada (the forbidden dance). Should be interesting!

Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough

Dance: Jive
Score: 6, 7, 7 = 20
Pretty good but moments of standing still during transitions. Carrie Ann liked her energy but said her footwork was out of control. Lots of fluffy hair extensions!

Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo

Dance: Quickstep
Score: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Those Olympians didn't get where they are without a lifetime of discipline, practice, and drive! They are so competitive! Natalie did well but the judges want her to relax and breathe!

Chuck Liddell & Anna Trebunskaya

Dance: Tango
Score: 6, 7, 6 = 19
Intense but a little stiff. He's going to be great at the paso doble. Carrie Ann said it was a little scary, and Bruno said it was definitely a tango.

Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas

Dance: Jive
Score: 7, 6, 6 = 19
Well, she is still restrained but got a bit better as she went along. The judges thought she improved from last week but needs to do better on her footwork.

Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova

Dance: Quickstep
Score: 7, 7, 6 = 20
I liked it and thought he had rhythm and energy. The judges said he improved and that they liked the dance.

Debi Mazar & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Tango
Score: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Debi had a meltdown during rehearsal because she didn't like the way Maks talked to her. He apologized for hurting her feelings and said he wants her to be the best she can. She dais the love/hate emotions of the tango should work well for them. They had passion and intensity as they danced to the Moulin Rouge version of "Roxanne" which of course Baz liked.

Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower

Dance: Jive
Score: 6, 7, 6 = 19
They are so cute! He danced well except in the middle part when he slowed it down some. The judges thought so, too.

Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff (and Muppets!)

Dance: Quickstep
Score: 9, 9, 9 = 27
It might be a good thing Karina and Maks aren't getting married because their intensity, fire, passion, and discipline that make them such wonderful dancers could make life hard for their children! Oh, this was good! Lively and fun! Bruno stood and said it was spectacular. That has meant a 10, so we'll see. Three 9's the second week! Well done!

Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel

Dance: Tango
Score: 6, 7, 6 = 19
She did it again and danced quite a tango! There were mistakes, but the judges said she drove on and did well. She was nervous and said she freaked out.

Kathy Ireland & Tony Dovolani

Dance: Quickstep
Score: 6, 6, 6 = 18
She did better than last week but won't be on here too long. She's elegant but too reserved. I just hope Tom DeLay goes home before she does but am afraid it won't happen.

Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer

Dance: Quickstep
Score: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Very good! I liked watching them do this energetic, lively dance with fun! Their 20's costumes and music helped.

Mya & Dmitry Chaplin

Dance: Jive
Score: 9, 9, 9 = 27
She can dance! This was energetic and fun! Bruno said it was like watching Josephine Baker and Clark Kent (their costumes). The judges liked it!

Tom DeLay & Cheryl Burke

Dance: Tango
Score: 6, 6, 6 = 18
Actually his footwork was pretty good, which shouldn't be surprising. He almost dropped Cheryl there at the end and had no passion, thank goodness, or the creep factor that got to me last week would have turned gaggy. Please, America, send him home now!!!

Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson

Dance: Jive
Score: 8, 9, 8 = 25
He's such a performer that when he gets in front of an audience, he rises to the occasion! He did really well!
MOST LIKELY TO ATTACK: Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be taking their post-breakup frustrations on their celeb dance partners. Both pros were called out by their partners this week for pushing them too hard. Just an editing choice to focus on them? Maks seemed to push Debi Mazar too far for their love/hate tango. She told him she wanted him to be more patient and he replied “Never.” She told the camera “There's a line that you can't cross” and then told Maks she doesn't like being talked to like she is an idiot. She got emotional and he felt bad, saying he didn't intend to hurt her feelings. He apologized. I feel like over the years he's been in this situation before. I'm not used to Karina being told to back off too, but she seemed to get to Aaron. But it worked for their routine, so maybe she should keep pushing. Bad sign, though, that nerves are getting so frayed in week two. I know they only had four days to learn a routine, as opposed to four weeks, but there's a long road ahead. (Source)
See? Someone else feels the way I do about this!

Minor editing note: Baz Luhrmann is actually Australian, not English.

The only ones of these "stars" I've ever even heard of are Donny Osmond, Kelly Osborne, and Tom Delay (unfortunately, I HAVE heard of him!) Who are the rest of these people?

Good lord Debi give it a break.
Joy, I really think Mya will be hard to beat but If I was going to get behind someone it would be Donny.
Great Recap.
Have you ever seen "Moulin Rouge"?
It's one of my favorites.
