School Open House

Tonight was open house at Brendan's school. I went and enjoyed meeting his teacher. He always thinks I know everyone he does and asks if I know various teachers and others at his school. I'll tell him that I don't, and he doesn't get it. So tonight before we went into the building, I told him I'd get to know some of the people he asked me about. He was so excited and would say, "This is Ms. Whatever. Now do you know her?" with everyone he saw in the hall. He will expect me to remember them after hearing their names one time. He can do that, but I don't have his freakishly good memory that is a by-product of Asperger's. If he ever meets anyone, he remembers them. So I'll just say yes that I remember them when he asks next time.

He's spending the night with me Saturday and asked how long it was until then. He was ready to come home with me tonight, which makes me feel good. I'm glad he feels that way.

His teacher seems nice and is doing a good job. He's doing better this year, and we're so happy with this school. I talked with the principal for a while. I've met her several times during meetings and like her. The principal sets the tone for a school, and she is great!

I am so happy for him and good for you, you keep your teacher's secret on the down low. I agree with you the Principals sets the tone. I love my school for that reason. My principal is one of those that, gives a hundred but expect 150 from you no excuses ever. I love her. She is such a great woman. And she loves her students, last year there was this horrible kid in the school but for whatever reason she know how to handle him. She will even given him special reading assignments and correct his work. Don't you know that at the end he got some sort of award. I was fuming but I heard that it was the grade teachers that sign up for that. anyway thanks again for your wonderful story.

What do you teach, lelocolon? Your school sounds like a good environment, and I'm so glad you have a principal you like to work for. Thanks for the sweet things you say. :-)

FP and Beth, it is encouraging that he's off to a good start this year. We've had some moments I haven't discussed on here, so this shows us how far he's come. It's still a long road ahead, but we see progress! My son and daughter-in-law are involved and work with him so well, too. It really is taking a village.
