@Pseudonymph: That's exactly what it's like. They hide their captured prey underwater to let the water soften up the tissue--a kind of "meat tenderizer", I guess...
Also, I've heard that, although they have that massive crushing force in their jaws, their opening force is quite weak, which is how a simple noose or duct tape is sufficient to keep those jaws closed. (Too much Wild Kingdom as a kid. Get him, Jim!)
I do extra jaw exercises to make sure my jaws have more force!
