Insects and arachnids make up 80 percent of all the animal species on Earth. There are over 5 million species of insects and arachnids in all.

5,000 species either begin their life in water, or spend their entire life in water.
The other day I brought in some water plants and found a damselfly nymph.
My favorite-st find was a rattail maggot. Very kewl. Grows up to be drone fly that lives on nectar but in its youth (tender tummies warning!) it can live in decaying animal matter and breathes thru its long tail which acts like a snorkel. From the ridiculous to the sublime.
and if they ever decided to take over the world....we wouldn't have a chance....isn't that from the ornithologist in The Birds?
I knew you'd get into this, FP, and thought about you when I read it. I also thought about you other day when I was listening to someone on NPR discussing planting trees, etc, for a native environment that balances itself with the birds, insects, and all.
