This afternoon I heard that a former student lost both his legs because of a car bomb. He's a Marine serving in Iraq. He was in my 9th and 11th grade English classes and ran track. I'm profoundly sad and can't find words for this.

I'm so sorry to hear that Joy. My prayers are with you, him and his family. Such brave people who go out to these countries to sort out the mess that these religious fanatics cannot fix. 'My God is better than your God, so therefore you must die'. Did God invent that philosophy?
I emailed, but the casual way big businesses and gov'ts use our young is tragic. What this boy gave "for his country" makes it hard not to be cynical. My heart goes out to you Joy.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know? I hear my being dance from ear to ear. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you? God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how? The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair; I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do To you and me; so take the lively air, And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I learn by going where I have to go.

Another young life ruined for oil. When will this country wake up?
That is BEYOND horrible. I feel so badly for his poor family.
:(

I know. My thoughts exactly.
