Huh, Not Guns.

From the 1850s to the 1880s, the most common cause of death among cowboys in the American West was being dragged by a horse while caught in the stirrups.

I can believe it - several near misses on horses over the years - especially when we ran into a black bear. Not sure who was more hysterical. We were probably in more danger when we were chased by farm geese.
