Interesting

Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak earned money in college by selling "blue boxes" to other students. A blue box attached to a pay phone created the proper signals to allow a user to make free phone calls.

He probably made a fortune doing that, because I remember how expensive long-distance calling was in college.

It's so funny to think that now students have cell phones, email, facebook, and twitter to stay in touch over a long distance - and all we had was AT&T long distance and/or the U.S. Postal Service.

you used to be able to make one of those dialer thingies with parts from the local radio shack. it would make the tones the various coins would make as they were deposited, allowing you to dial for free.
