Question
I wonder about those battery chargers for electric cars that I see dotted around all over the place. Are they free? I couldn't see a place to put any money in them.

I've wondered the same thing, but I think they are free.
When we visited a friend in Alaska we noticed chargers like this. Now this was about 30 years ago (!!!) Anyway they were provided for people to plug in their engine blocks to keep the car's oil(?) from freezing while they were in the store. It is COLD up there. Probably the cost of energy was just rolled into the cost of merchandise and was pretty low at a time. Just like we all pay the price of advertising, contests and other budget items.
people have block heaters up here in the more northern climes...
now as far as the electric car charging stations i know you can have one installed in your home but they charge you the installation. i'm thinking the ones about town are free because no one wants a car with a dead battery sitting in front of their business.

They are not free. Most have a credit card slot where you swipe a card...

About those chargers - I didn't see a place to put a credit card but am going to check that out. I looked all over the thing and didn't see anything but didn't look around that hose part much.
