The dome light and courtesy lights on the door of your car won't turn off and causes the battery to run down. So you call AAA to jump off the battery. You've already removed the dome light but couldn't get the door lights out. The wrecker guy from AAA removes them for you. So you drive around for a couple of months without those lights, which is inconvenient at night, but you get used to it. Then last Friday the car is towed to the auto repair shop because it won't start. It goes rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr, but that's it. That same AAA wrecker guy comes over to let you know it's not the battery and asks what you did about the lights. Then he tows the car away. So when the auto repair guy calls to let you know it's the fuel pump and to give you the bad news about how much it will cost, you ask them to check the problem with the lights not going off. They take care of the fuel pump and the light situation. Fast forward to when you pick up the car, and they show you how that switch that dims the dashboard lights will make them stay on when it's turned all the way to the right and makes a clicking sound. That's all that was wrong. Yep.
Not that I would know anything about this.

Oh, Auntie Flame! You shoulda called me! I couldn't have helped with your mechanical problems but at least I would have convinced you that you're not a dumbass!
THANK GOODNESS this didn't happen to you. We all know that you are much too on top of things to let this happen.
Please convey my sympathy to your "friend".
XOXOXOXO
Thank you. I'll let Bernice know.

Well, I do love your bits of trivia that you've picked up via reading and NOT by personal experience!
well this dunbass rented a car last year and drove two nights without any interior lights on his dashboard. couldn't see how fast i was driving among other things. When I went to return the car i told them there was a problem with the dashboard lights and the guy reached in and moved a little dial beside the steering wheel. :)
Oh, dear!! Yup, give your friend a big hug :-)
i drank two cups of hot water the other day when i got up before i realized it wasn't coffee. i know shame well, and share my sympathies with your friend.....

Ouch :o)
Love the comments!!! Thank you all!
It's good to know I'm not alone. Dan and MMA, I literally laughed out loud with you! We're something, aren't we?
I told Tug about the lights and he guessed what it was right off the bat since he's wise in the ways of cars. If you ever have any questions, call or text him.
Here's your sign. I feel I should share in your walk of shame. Why I didn't ask you if you had checked that switch, I'll never know.
At least you didn't buy a new battery.
And what about the wrecker guy? Shouldn't he have known? Hey, that's right! I did tell you about this, didn't I? Yes, come walk in shame with me!! :-) Thank you! xoxoxoxxo
Oh Joy, this is classic Bernice. She should have called you and you would have helped her. I sympathize since I believe that cars run on some sort of magical principal similar to the one that makes the brooms fly in all those Harry Potter movies.
WELL- I for one don't know anything on this subject either. Although the ride in the tow truck was exciting since the guy was big cute and beefy. Or so my friend said. Say hi to Bernice for me would you Auntie Flame?
And yet through it all, you are loved...so none of ha silly car stuff matters after all because it's the car's fault for not telling you to turn the thing back (says the man who drained his jeep battery several times the same way)
