During World War II, before James Arness portrayed U.S. mar-shall Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke, he was the first American soldier to jump off his boat at the Anzio beachhead. He was ordered to do so by his commanding officer because, standing at 6’8", Arness was the tallest man in his company, and the water’s depth needed to be tested as a safety precaution.
Miss Kitty must have been tall, too, because I don't remember her being tremendously shorter than he was.

It was Miss Kitty's hair that was tall.
I had no idea he was that tall!
I loved that show. And he was such a manly man.
That was one of the few shows my daddy saw fit for us to watch; that and Hee Haw ... Man was I cultured !
The cast of men in that show were hog heaven for me.
Ms. Moon is right, it was tall an bright she new how to out stage them.
As a child I was fascinated by Ms. Kitty on Gunsmoke. I really wasn't sure what to make of her. I loved the fact that she was a strong, determined woman. She seemed to be the most interesting person in that town, as far as I was concerned.
It looks like Ms. Moon is right. From the photo the hair gives Ms. Kitty a good four to five inches of height.
I loved that show, too. It was one of my favorites. Miss Kitty was cool. She ran her own business and was strong and independent.
