I love this game! I'm kind of a geek. I can tell you who and what won the Oscar every year in most categories since its inception without even looking at IMDB. I won a lot of drinking games with that little trick in college...lol. My Best Picture was One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest...the other nominees that year were Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, Jaws, and Nashville.
That's one of my favorite things about you, Eric! I'm a movie buff but nowhere near your level!! Love it!
What's interesting (and irritating in some cases) are the ones that didn't win and should have instead of the ones that got it. Also movies and actors that weren't even nominated!
I agree! Top of head shoulda-beens: Brokeback Mountain for pic, Marlene Dietrich should have been nom'd for WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, Angela Lansbury should have won for THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, Tim Curry should have been nom'd for ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (you laugh but it's a great performance), the list goes on...
Well Put Guys. The year of my birth 1965,The Sound of Music won Best Picture, but Julie Andrews failed to win for her perfomance. You know Joy, my fondest memories of the Oscar's are these two.
Geraldine Page's win for TheTrip to Bountiful, one of my all time favorite movies ever. The critics all went with Whoopi Goldberg's role in Color Purple, which was amazing. But Geraldine Page's performance still brings me to my knees. Second, was Bette Midler's loss for "The Rose" to Sally Fields win for "Norma Rae". Watching "The Rose" I found it so hard to separate Bette from Mary Rose Foster. Bette was ROBBED!!!. still hurts after all these years.
I agree with you about those, Sam. Also agree with you, Eric, about your list. I never understood why Gwynneth Paltrow won for Shakespeare in Love. I have a longer list but she comes to mind right now.
Because of your blog, I told David to order The Weeping Camel and The Lost Weekend (the best pic for 1946, the year of my birth). Thanks.
Good! Let me know how you like it.
Oliver took top prize in 1968 as well, that was the first time the Oscars were televised worldwide.
I, too, am Tom Jones. And I LOVED "A Trip to Bountiful"! Geraldine Page was great and so was Rebecca DeMournay!
