It happened. Even more of Venice is under water in a bad way. See news story here. I read about it on Rik's blog, so it must be true.
I love Venice! The people were friendly; the city beautiful; and the ambience incomparable!
Brian and I had a cappuccino at one of those tables. That second one on the right, I think. ;-)

When I saw it on the news this morning I had to wonder, how would they know?
Not been there yet, but is on my list. :-)
I love venice too...best gelato I have ever had!
I remember geography in 6th grade and we were already talking about it in 1953- those were the beginning years the country started talking about conservation. As kids we were sure we would see it disappear in our lifetime. every once in a while the problem crops up again in the news, and no one seems to know what can be done about it.Sort of the same with the Leaning Tower of Pisa- although they have tried all kinds of things with that. But Venice is so massive! did the report say anything about any plans in the works?

I saw the bit about building an underwater damn and don't see the sense of it but what do I know?
I was thinking more along the lines of Venice's foundations crumbling and sinking in the stuff I read over the years.

hold the press!!!! are these YOUR pictures???? day-um.
No, I found them online. I have some I took when I was there, but I'd have to scan them since that was in 1990 before digital cameras and blogs and computers like we have now. I'm planning to scan pictures I took from various times and places and will post them eventually.
