All these people are dying! Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes died this weekend. Bernie Mac was just 50 and died from pneumonia. Hayes was 65 (just a little oder than I am) and was found collapsed beside his treadmill. (Am I sure I want to continue exercising?) Both are talented men, and they will be missed.
Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn also died this week. He was a dark and complicated man. This is his name in Russian - Алекса́ндр Иса́евич Солжени́цын - that I just had to copy and paste it for some reason. Brian studied Russian but doesn't remember much of it. Terry Gross discussed Solzhenitsyn on NPR because she interviewed him several years ago after the USSR was dissolved and he could return to his homeland from Vermont where he lived in the US. He was critical of both Russia and the US.

While if often scares me a bit, especially when someone so close in age passes on, it always makes me appreciate the life I have and the people in it a bit more.
Good point. At least I'm not as morbid as I was when I made that list of people my age who were dead, if you remember that.
With that minor surgery coming up today, I had also thought of these people my age just passing. I am sure nothing will go wrong but probably Bernie thought the same with pneumonia. But we greats all tend to go together in clusters- if Isaac is at the pearlies the same time as I am, I hope he doesn't sing. I want to wait another round at least.
I read that as Bernie Mac died of paranoia. Must get glasses ...
