What Did They Use Before? Lanterns?

The first lighthouse to use electricity was the Statue of Liberty in 1886.

  1. A big flame, concentrated by mirrors and lenses. In the 1800s they used mostly whale oil, then lard oil, then kerosene, and then electricity.
